  1. At the bottom right of my current view of this site is this item:
    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/wildlife/5412728/Rare-red-kite-chicks-hatch-in-Scotland.html

    I'm kinda surprised that there are enough bird fanciers for this small Scottish story to have made the map at all. But I suppose it bodes well for a peacefully spinning globe that Bing/ Google/Microsoft stories occupied the top corners while bird news completed the day's events.

  2. I default the link to UK Tech news (I think). Fiddle about with the settings to suit

    [Edit]Nice to see the Beavers coming back to Loch Sween, though

    {WIBNI it translated the news to english, too - I'd love to see what's new in technology in Japan or Argentina right now!}

  3. I think it was Hector (some years ago) that introduced another global NewsMap site in the halbakery that was more geopolitically oriented. I will have to look that up and try to remember how it managed to rise above the biases of any other world news service. I remember, though, that it succeeded in being far more interesting to look at than a periodic table of the elements.

  4. That'd make a great Google Maps add-on... Highlight a town and see it's local news!

  5. The BEEB may be helping, as there's a programme called Springwatch which may be helping to promote stuff like this
    {Just a hunch}

  6. Neither of these two links are the site I was describing, but both are interesting in their own right:

  13. That's exactly what the muti map does. Pick any spot on the globe, zoom in to get a local map, and the local news appears in the side bar. In a test of my home town, it provided a dozen news stories that were occurring within a ten mile radius, and specifically excluded stories that were about greater Los Angeles. This site is powered by a combination of Google Maps in conjunction with Yahoo!News. It's fairly impressive.

  14. All I'm saying is, "Have you ever seen Susan and Amy on stage at the same time?"

  15. I wanted to see today's technology news in Tokyo :(

  16. I have to say that as tramp-stamps go, Amy's are some of the very crappest.
