I'm still not clear: What, if any, is the down-side of opting out of all this information collection? I mean, I'm all for smarter ads that actually help introduce me to products and services that I might actually want and can effectively use. I just don't want that to be the major focus of my learning experience on the internet.
Then opt-out now, and opt-back-in when YOU want. Does anyone else use your internet connection?
My attitude's a little different. I treat it a little like doorstep salesmen... In general, if I want something, I'll go to a shop and buy it/join-it. Just occasionally, I've been doorstepped by someone I'd really like to talk to - but 9 times out of 10 I don't want to listen AND, more importantly, I don't want them to pigeon-hole me. I'd rather they had me down as "Doesn't want to be disturbed", and leave me to find my own way
