Interesting. There was a spooky moment for me a few years ago when a local paper in Preston published a WW2 Luftwaffe photo of the few blocks around where I was brought up. (smack bang in the middle of what is now the University)
No bombs ever fell on the town despite it being a major rail junction, and it was thought that the white, 94m tall church spire of St Walburges was too valuable a waypoint for raids on Liverpool and Barrow to be bombed, though I suspect it would be more to do with there being fighter stations just minutes away.
It's not loading for me, it might be a bit busy? - I'm really keen to see the Glasgow pics. The city has changed so much in certain areas (it's now got a ruddy great motorway through it!).
Interesting.

ReplyDeleteI'm just looking at an aerial view of Glasgow from 1947 - I can't make head nor tail of it... This is fun!
ReplyDeleteOk - I've got one that makes sense. Compare & contrast:
ReplyDeleteGoogle Map of the Kelvingrove area (near Glasgow Uni & Kelvingrove Park)

With the 1947 version:

I can see my feet from here.
