  1. I was working in Paris in 1980 when the French celebrated (?) the 40th anniversary de Gaulle's 18th of June broadcast to the Free French.
    He broadcast from London.

    Massive celebrations, fireworks, music, de Gaulle's image projected from the Palais de Chaillot onto a screen formed of smoke bombs on cables between the first and second stages of the Eiffel Tower.
    Massive choir appeared from behind a curtain to sing the Marseillaise.
    The French do do a good Son et Lumière.

    No mention of the Brits.
