  1. Some of the most elegant were Einstein's Gedankenexperiment.
    I can remember trying to replicate Millikan's oil drop experiment at school.
    Didn't manage it, but got some great sparks out of the EHT supply.

    And just remember that Schroedinger's cat was a thought experiment.

  5. I just *knew* that the Millikan oil drop experiment would be there. For my high school physics, I had the choice of that brilliant, but highly tedious, experiment to demonstrate the electron mass or I the measurement of small g. With small g I got to construct a penduluum that was 3 stories high (I should have notice the Focault effect, but missed it) and also a Kater pendulum made from steel and brass.
