  1. I wonder if it would be possible to build a stand-alone receiver, then scan the skies SETI-style. Maybe the universe is alive with noise, but we're using outdated technology.

  2. (wonders whether the total-internal-refraction of optical fibres causes the distance to be much greater than the cable's distance... and if the Moon's (or a satellite) is closer - or, if the next move is just to have POS AI devices making the decisions)

    Doesn't make sense to me. Why can't you define some wiggle-based protocol?
    Also, have they really tested it across a galaxy?
