ReplyDeleteThank goodness!
ReplyDeleteWhat, you're not prepared for another dozen halfbaked orrery ideas?
ReplyDelete(Actually, the very first "Dog Orrery" idea which was spawned from the annotations on xenzag's Dog Walker idea got me so interested in some of the intricate and beautiful build-it-yourself kits that I'm considering buying one to assemble. So, I'm looking at that one idea as a positive thing.)
This was the igniter to my current fascination.
It's beautiful. I wonder if the sun wobbles on purpose.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I'd have the patience to put something like that together.

It looks like a kit. You get a few parts (and, ostensibly, instructions) every week for a year.
Interesting. That's about half the price of the one I was considering from www.build-solar-system.com, which is Eaglemoss' english language website. Theirs is US$349 including shipping and handling if you purchase it as a complete kit instead of a subscription series. US$399 if they put it together for you.
ReplyDelete(Edit: Actually I was off by a decimal order in that top of the head calculation. I was thinking that the1790 Yen price indicated would be around USD$180. It turns out that 1790 Yen would only be USD$19.63 at today's conversion rate. So there must be something wrong with either the DeAgostino printed price or the quality of the product they are offering. I'm betting it lost something in the translation.)
Instead of brass, maybe their parts are made of recycled kelp?
ReplyDeleteWow. I *must* be _old_ or something.
ReplyDeleteMe too. Base on the fact that I've seen about eleven of them, that must make me, like 99-11 = 88 years old.
ReplyDeleteIn internet years.
