However... this stuff looks pretty familiar - it looks like something I originally saw as a metrology product, but I recently bought as siligum. The only difference is that the one they've got is a single-part material (unless they've just sneakily made the two components the same colour). That looks to me like a disadvantage, because you have to use a single sachet in one go.
The one improvement I think they might have made is to make the stuff harder - siligum would work for most of the applications they describe, but it's a bit soft.
That siligum goes for about £12.00 - I'd love to know how much the sugru is.
So does Play-Doh, for that matter. There are also any number of hand-kneadable epoxies on the market which will make a serviceable sculpting and customizing material; the downside though is that being epoxy they dry stone hard and provide little shock absorbtion or hand comfort. The upside is that most OTC epoxies are a standard unostentatious middle gray color, which to me is preferable to the colors Sugru decided to use.

I think Maplin do a material (Ploymorph) which is soft and pliable when heated with warm water, but then sets (and remains set) as hard as plastic
