  4. We act all surprised when we find out that we aren't any smarter than the "ancient, primitive" people of 2,000 or so years ago.

    Our brains haven't evolved at all in that short period of time, so it only stands to reason they thought of many of the same things we do... though they might have had a little more time to contemplate and perfect their ideas than we can afford to take.

  5. I was pondering that looking at the ads for Year One. We always portray our distant ancestors as more primitive in every respect, but they must have been very refined people in their own eyes, and probably would be in ours too, if we could meet and converse.

    And I'm so tired of filmmakers using dirt as a shortcut to show historical times or faces. They may not have bathed every day, but I can't believe people would have gone round dirty, any more than they do today in places without running water.

    P.S. We probably haven't evolved significantly in at tens or hundreds of thousands of years, except maybe in respect to resistance to specific diseases.
